10 Things to Know About the 2011 Super Bowl XLV

Date and Time


Super Bowl XLV will be the 45th championship football game of the National Football League. The biggest game on the planet will be played Sunday, February 6, 2011 in North Texas at Cowboys Stadium. All the festivities will be broadcast live on the FOX network. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:25 p.m. Central Standard Time.


The Matchup


The Green Bay Packers will play the Pittsburgh Steelers to determine the champion for the 2010 NFL Football season. The Steelers have 6 wins, the most of any NFL team. The Packers hold 12 overall NFL titles with 3 wins, and 9 league titles won before it existed.


The Venue


Cowboys Stadium located in Arlington, North Texas is a marvel of modern engineering. The massive structure is the world's largest domed structure with a retractable roof. It seats 110,000 and uses enough energy for this one game to power over 1,500 homes for a year. Attendees will be able to watch replays on the 175 foot "Jerry-Tron" stretches from one 20-yard line to the other.


Halftime Entertainment


The NFL halftime show is sponsored by Bridgestone and will feature the Black Eyed Peas. Whether you like them or not, they're certain to get the crowd revved up and excited.


The National Anthem


Winner of five Grammy Awards, singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera is slated to sing the National Anthem for the pre-game activities. Aguilera says she has been performing the anthem since she was seven-years-old and has performed once before at XXXIV in Atlanta.


Ticket Prices


According to the Dallas Morning News, the starting price for a ticket is about $2,500. Face value of these tickets range from $600 to $1,200. Some Party Plaza tickets are going for about $300 each. Club seats on the Steelers 50-yard line are as high as $15,000. A Ring of Honor Suite that includes 15 tickets and food went for $73,163. Parking spots at the game cost anywhere from $500 to $900.


Largest Number of Volunteers


The North Texas XLV Host Committee is enlisting the help of more than 10,000 men and women to help with dozens of events happening on he days before the big event, and on game day. Volunteers will be used for everything from answering phone calls to greeting visitors at the airport.


Top Super Bowl Parties


The Official NFL Tailgate Party is slated for February 6th and costs $1,500 per ticket. Taste of the NFL Party is February 5th at the Fort Worth Convention Center. It is hosted by current and former NFL players and tickets are $1000. Leather & Laces Party is February 4th and 5th and tickets are $800. The most expensive party in town is the Playboy Party with tickets going for $2,700.


Fighter Jets to Patrol Airspace


The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has requested the airspace over and around it be restricted and patrolled by U.S. Air Force fighter jets.


FBI Taking Air Samples


Just in case there might even be a chance of terrorist threat, the FBI is taking air samples in Cowboys Stadium all week and during the big game in order to monitor any changes in the air.
